One Night In A Box

All I can say is, "I'm glad I'm not in CO or KS having to deal with all that snow!" and "I hope it does not hit us March 30-31!!!"

March 30-31 will be our 8th annual "One Night in a Box" fundraiser event.

Below are links wuth all the details for the "One Night in a Box" event:

I've already had several people contacting me requesting the info, so I thought I'd go ahead and get it out there for people to start collecting donations. I hope we can get as many church youth groups, school groups and Norman Community groups involved as possible. I really hope to have 100 participants! It is one of the most efficient "die to your self" ways, to collect money for some of the non-profit agencies that help the homeless/needy. As one youth minister said, "It is one of Norman’s best kept secret in town." It definitely is a life changing experience to see what it might be like to be homeless for a night. The true stories you will hear from Skyline Urban Ministries and the Box of Sock Ministry will be so inspiring.

If you or a group you are leading would like to participate, please let me know by March 13. That way I can add your name to the list when I submit a newspaper article. We have had several News Stations come out and do a segment on the event in the past. We hope to have the same this year.

Please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Feb 21 - City Rescue

Sat., February 11 is the next volunteer day. We will be serving City Rescue in OKC for half a day (If you enjoy working with little kids, this would be a fun event to attend) and then coming back down to Norman to work with Center for Children and Families. Deadline to sign-up will be Monday, Feb. 6.

If you have never participated with us, click here to download and complete a parent permission form.

If you are over 18 years of age, you will need to complete an adult form.

"ONE NIGHT in a BOX" is BACK - MARCH 30-31. Mark your calendars and make plans to be there! Ask your youth minister if they will plan to join with us. This event will benefit non-profit agencies that help the homeless. Details coming SOON.

If you have a facebook, then we would appreciate you "Liking" CAM and helping us to get the word out.

Up-date from this past Sat. - pictures are on the web: We had 29 participants join us this past Saturday to volunteer a total of 155 hours at the OKC Regional Food Bank. When we first got there, there must have been at least 250 volunteers from all over. They spilt everyone down into 3 main BIG groups, with CAM breaking apart; some going to help with the repackaging of frozen corn, while the other half boxed a variety of boxed and canned goods that would be distributed to local food pantries. It was fun getting to know some of the other volunteers. Many of them volunteer at the Food Bank every third Saturday of the month. With everyone’s help, we moved 28,122 pounds of food, which is equivalent to 25,477 meals. AMAZING what giving a few hours of yourself can do for so many!

Oree did an awesome job on his first devotion. He was challenging the group to know what they believe in order to be able to share their faith with others. Many people say all religions lead to the same God; and it is narrow to believe there is only one way to God as Christianity claims. Are they right? We had lots of discussion and I think everyone went away knowing that the Bible is true and that Jesus Christ is the only way. While having the devotion we had a young man that had come to volunteer on his own, listening to our conversation from afar. Our students asked if he wanted to join in, we handed him a Bible and he willing did so. That was so cool to see our students be observant enough to reach out to others.

Tentative CAM Volunteer Days - January-August 2012

Keep an eye on your e-mail and the website for any up-dates and changes.

We are looking at the calendar to see what will be the best time to start the Bible studies back up.

Jan. 21: OKC Regional Food Bank (9 am-3 pm)

Feb. 11: City Rescue: setting up stations in the gym for children: games, story time, crafts--all centered on the true meaning of love, since Valentines in right around the corner. (9-noon). We are working on another volunteer project for the afternoon.

One Night in a Box: fundraiser for the homeless--a couple of other youth groups plan to join us. We will be working with them on the best date. It will be the end of Feb. or one of the weekends in March.

March: Skyline Urban Ministry--helping to serve a meal to the homeless. This will be limited to about 10 people. It will take place on a Sat. evening.

April 14: Metropolitan Library at the Art's Festival: We'd love to have CAM help this year at the International Festival which will be held at the Downtown Library, 300 Park Avenue in OKC on Saturday, April 14th. We need at least 12 people per shift. Shifts will be from 9:30 to 1:30 or 12:30 to 4:30 or the big daddy all day shift from 9:30 to 4:30. The festival includes food tasting from around the world, dance and musical performances as well as hands on craft items. Volunteers will be needed to assist the artists in setting up, helping keep tables clean in the atrium, assisting with the crafts and providing hospitality (food, drink and respite) for the artists. The event is on the first floor in the atrium, plus all the classrooms and the auditorium on the 4th floor. CAM would be perfect to help, and it would be a much different experience for you at the library than you've had previously since you would be interacting with and helping the public.
